Strange Sleep Facts And Stats
|Hi everyone! We hope you are going well today, and that you had a good rest last night. Speaking of rest, I would be the first to put my hand up to say that I don’t always get a good nights’ rest.
As such, we asked around our sources and fortunately one of our previous contributors Josh Wardini has some advice and an infographic for us to share regarding this topic. Here goes:
“There are so many things about sleep that we don’t know. Some of them might be beneficial for us since we might learn something, while others are just too interesting for us not to know. The infographic below summarizes some of the most useful facts about sleeping, as well as some of the most interesting ones that might surprise us all. Here are some of them:
Lack of sleep can cause obesity
Who would have thought that lack of sleep would be closely connected with your weight? Well, as it turns out, the less sleep you get, the more likely you are to gain more weight. This might be due to the fact that an increase in hunger is often associated with lack of sleep. Actually, 5% of obesity is linked to sleep deprivation.
Sleep medications can lead to death
It’s already well known that taking sleep medications can have a harmful impact on your health. With that being said, a study that included 10,529 patients between the years 2002 and 2007 showed that a staggering 35% of them were likely to develop cancer. If that’s not bad enough, there have been reports that in 2010, hypnotics played a massive part in deaths in the US, with about 320,000 to 507,000 people dying. Also, based on some sleep statistics, people taking sleeping pills are three times more likely to die early.
Electronic devices in the bedroom are bad even if you don’t use them
Something that we should all stay clear from is using our electronic devices before going to sleep. However, there has been research done, which shows that having electronic devices in the room is just as harmful as using them. This is due to the electromagnetic signals that they emit.
Who would have thought that something as simple as sleep would turn out to be so complicated? These facts only prove how much we still don’t know about sleep and how much we can learn. The infographic below clearly showcases these facts and a lot more, giving us an idea of how we can improve our quality and quantity of sleep.”
