Science Shows That There Are Six Features Men Can’t Resist
|The last blog post was a very serious one, where I dived into the academic literature to explain the link between body image and eating disorders. As such, I feel the need to come up with a light-hearted blog post today, about a more relaxing topic we can talk about.
Today we will be talking about six features of women which men seem to have difficulty resisting. Obviously I’m talking about single heterosexual males, although it might or might not apply to attached or married men as well (I wouldn’t know firsthand). Please note that I am not the one who came up with the research on this one. I simply got the information from a female magazine editor.
The magazine editor asserts that if a man looks at a woman from top to bottom, he’s probably thinking about how sex with her would be like. Apparently, recent scientific research has made advancements into explaining why this would be the case. I say – come on, is this research really necessary? Can’t we just accept this without questioning it?
Anyways, according to many sources, including academic ones, men are performing a reproductive fitness assessment every single time they check out a woman. Evolutionarily, we were designed to look out for certain key features indicative of good health and fertility.
While this might seem ridiculous to some, research shows that it is true in most cases, and it is often subconscious as well. Without further ado, here are some things which men generally find attractive in women.
One – A High Pitched Voice
While we might or might not agree with this one, research apparently shows that a high-pitched voice evokes youthfulness and a small feminine body. To me it seems a bit unusual because I read somewhere that a deep voice is perceived sexy to both sexes.
Two – Healthy Long Hair
This one might not be pleasing to those who do not wish to conform to societal norms. However, it is generally true that most straight men find long hair attractive. If you conduct a random poll and insisted on honesty, the results will speak for themselves. The scientific explanation is that healthy hair is a sign of fertility.
Three – A Beautiful Smile
It is no surprise that happy people are perceived to be more attractive. Interestingly, the same can’t be said the other way around in some cultures. Some research has shown that a man with confidence will not exude the beta-male, nice-guy aura.
Four – Red Clothes
It is no surprise that the colour red is associated with fiery passion and lust. This appears to hold true in other animals too, interestingly enough. However, I don’t think there is really any strong scientific explanation for this one. Leave it as it is – a mystery.
Five – Less Make Up
This one might surprise some people, especially in the western world where cosmetics are a massive industry. Apparently, research shows that the natural look is more appealing to men, with some studies showing that men prefer women who use up to 40% fewer cosmetics compared to the average.
Six – A Prescribed Waist To Hip Ratio
Surprise surprise – not! It is universally known that a ratio of 0.7 is the most pleasing. This is because women that have such a ratio are considered more fertile. Starting to see a trend yet?
I hope you find this entertaining, or at least intriguing. I know that this post is at risk of offending certain women, but hey, I’m just pointing out what the research is showing. And yes I do agree that in this day and age, everyone should be free to be however you want to be. And if you are a single woman, don’t attempt to change your personality just to get a man, because he might just turn out to not be the right man.
