Some Steps You Can Take Towards Happiness – Part Two

Before we continue with the list, how did you find the tips from part one. I know at least two of you implemented it and wrote to us expressing your gratitude. Well, we’re glad it worked for you. Now, onto the second part, which will hopefully be just as helpful as the first.

One: Have Some Private Time

We live in a different world these days, don’t we? One which we value our privacy to “recharge”. Well, in modern day urban society, you absolutely have to. Spend some of this time thinking about where you are, as well as what you’re good and not good at. Devote this time as a precursor to self-improvement. Sometimes, a bit of time devoted to our private thoughts can refresh us, motivate us, and make us happy too.

Two: Take Time To “Meditate”

This goes hand-in-hand with the point above. I use the term “meditate” very very loosely, because that means a different thing to different people. The point is – get in touch with your spiritual side, or your soul. For Christians like me, this would mean reflecting on the word of God. To you it might be something different, but you get my gist.

Three: Take Action

Righty-o! Easier said than done, right? Well, yes. But it doesn’t mean you can’t do anything. When you are at peace and feeling happy and positive, you can start planning your steps towards whichever goal you’ve identified. Plan them so that each step is small – this is of utmost importance. Then start working on the small things. Be happy and enjoy the journey.

Four: Take Responsibility

In any situation, it is our tendency to focus on our “rights”. Working at a Union, I know this well enough. However, since we live in the real world, the fact is that the coin is two-sided. There are rights, but there are responsibilities also. If you messed up, own up to it first! However, after that the next step would be to learn from it. Mistakes are okay; not learning from them is not okay. Learn to be at peace with making mistakes and the peace will give you joy.

Five: Know That You Can’t Change Everything

In an ideal world we can all reach our goals easily and effortlessly. We don’t live in such a world. As such, we have to learn and understand that we can control some things – namely the way we cope with things. However, there are some things we can’t change and stuff that is out of our control. Learning to cope with it is part of making us mature. And yes, the peace might make us more positive and maybe happy too!

Okay, how did you find it? Five steps in this article and six in the previous one. If you take them on board and incorporate them into your life, you would have positioned yourself well to maximise your happiness. Perhaps if the demand is high enough, our next book will be completely devoted to this topic. Anyways, all the best, and check out the links below too:
