Five Exercise-Related Tips For Weight Loss

Once in a while, it is good to take a break from long and complex articles, and instead focus on putting out a list that you can follow selectively. Following the success of the previous list, we have put together another one, but this time its topic is exercise and fitness. Enjoy!

One: Try A New Sport

This might be a shocking one to start this list. But it makes sense. If you have been following a particular routine for a long time, your body adapts to it and gets more efficient – resulting in less calories being burnt. By shaking it up a little you might find yourself losing weight faster.

Two: Fast, Slow, Fast, Slow

Interval training, which consists of alternating high and low intensity periods, is known to boost metabolism significantly. This is because your heart has to keep on changing and adapting to a different intensity level. There is a ton of research that supports this, so you might as well try it, right?

Three: Beefcake! Strength Training

We often think of cardio as the best way to lose weight. However, some research has shown that pumping iron, when done at a sufficiently intense level, can also result in weight loss. This is because weight training can increase your resting metabolic rate, which means that you will be burning excess calories when not exercising.

Four: Break Up Your Workouts

Okay, this one is not really a scientific point, but a psychological one. If you can’t commit to one intense hour-long workout, then how about aiming for two 30-minute ones? The principle behind this is that doing something is better than doing nothing. Makes sense, doesn’t it?

Five: Women – Time Your Phases

This seems really abstract, but I’m simply regurgitating an interesting piece of knowledge I came across. A recent study from the University of Adelaide has shown that exercising during the later phase of your menstrual cycle results in more weight loss than any other phase. The research even suggests that the differences could be as much as 30 percent!

I hope you benefit from the information on this list, except maybe the last one, which was no more than a point of interest.
