Always Tired? It Could Be Due To Adrenal Fatigue
|Whenever we humans go through an event that makes us nervous, say an exam, our body reacts in certain ways. Our system would be on ‘high alert’ as it is happening, but at the end of it we are faced by exhaustion as the event has used up a lot of our resources. This exhaustion is due to something in our bodies known as the adrenal system.
The adrenal system is responsible for releasing hormones in order to keep our bodies going 24-7. It is part of what is known as an endocrine system. This is a very delicate system that regulates metabolism, inflammation and other elements within our bodies. Sometimes, unfortunately, imbalances within the regulatory mechanisms cause an imbalance, and that is when problems emerge.
The bad news is that if you stress it out too much in the long-term, there will be consequences. And before you become complacent, there are many things that can cause this; some of them are, as you guessed, to do with the diet, while others are psychological or emotional issues such as trauma, grief and even negative thinking. You’d be fooling yourself if you didn’t think that merely thinking negative thoughts could hurt your bodily systems.
So how do you know if you have worn out your adrenal system too much? The folks at Collective Evolution have boiled the common symptoms down into this list: asthma, allergies, respiratory issues, dark circles under the eyes, dry skin, extreme exercise exhaustion, frequent urination, joint pain, loss of muscle tone, low blood pressure/dizziness, low blood sugar, numbness in your fingers / poor circulation, weight gain, morning fatigue, decreased libido, depression, muscle weakness, poor focus, bone loss, inflammation, difficulty sleeping, irritability/fatigue, cravings for sugar/salt, hair loss.
Now is it just me, or is the list above pretty much half of the more common things that can go wrong in the human body? It is, isn’t it? Don’t go into panic mode and jump to conclusions though, you hypochondriac. The human body is a very complex system, so having a few of those above does not necessarily means that you are in trouble. The bad news, however, is that most of us have stressed out our adrenal system to a certain extent. Oh well.
So what is the answer? To be honest, it is really tough if we live in the western world. The most obvious one is to de-stress. See, I told you that it’s an uphill battle, right? Fortunately, there are other things you can do, such as cleaning out excessive sugar from your diet, eating fermented food, reducing caffeine, hydrating yourself more, and ensuring you get a balanced diet.
Isn’t it so cliché? You probably thought that I would come up with some unexpected gem of wisdom. But instead of pretending to do so, it really is about going back to basics. Whatever you have learnt about healthy living be it dietary, physical activity, having enough sleep, or reducing stress are all applicable in this scenario. Such is the reality of life.
